The Commission boss handed down this charge while playing host to the chairmen and secretaries of the various conferences of the departments in the Local Government service of Pacesetter State, at the Conference Room of the Commission, recently.
The meeting was arranged by the chairman of the commission to commend the career officers for their uprightness and to encourage them to continue to discharge their duties diligently.
The chairman of the commission, Dr. Aderemi Ayodele further implored them to continue complementing the good works of Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, while he expressed his joy on the favourable way the State Governor has been treating the civil and public officers through the prompt payment of salaries and allowances, with series of human capacity building workshops attached. He said the Governor has vowed not to joke with their welfare, which he has not deviated from, since his administration came on board.
He also pinpointed that Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration in the past three years, has been favourable to numerous civil/public servants in terms of lifting the ban on promotion, conversion, regular payment of pensions and gratuities, as and when due.
According to him, “the promotion they ought to have gotten for a long time which was denied them by the immediate past administration has been given to them, with all the financial benefits attached.”
He further urged the officers to eschew political partisanship while discharging their duties, imploring them to reciprocate the good gestures of the Governor, by being more efficient and effective as they are the ones that implement Government policies and decisions.
In his own contribution, the full-time Commissioner 2, Hon. Hakeem Taiwo Oke, also implored the principal officers not to relent in discharging their duties, adding that virtually all the things they have been longing for as career officers have been brought to fruition by the incumbent administration.
He posited that the Governor is with them, he has always been with them, and will continue to be with them.
He maintained that all they need is continuous synergy between the political heads and the career officers.
In his closing remarks, the permanent secretary, Mr. Akin Funmilayo intimated the gathering of the character traits of an ideal career officer, which border on contentment, diligence, dignity, loyalty, competence and so on.
According to him, âthe primary objective of all career officers is to discharge their duties effectively, shy away from any form of infraction, and take their hands off things that could jeopardize their career and put them in the black book of government .”
â An ideal career officer is one who imbibes the values and ethos of civil/public service, which include dignity of labour, uncompromising commitment to accountability, probity, and transparency, ” he said.
In their various responses, the Chairman conference of HLGAs, Deacon Taiwo Adewale and other conference chairmen who spoke on the occasion appreciated and thanked the chairman, board members, permanent secretary and management staff of the Commission for holding this type of forum, and for giving them a good sense of belonging, underscoring the imperative of one good turn deserving another.
They were equally of the opinion that the meeting would spur them into action and ginger them to do more, promising to complement the good works of the State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde by discharging their official duties much more effectively to the admiration of the grassroots people.
